BECOME ART

Ancient art, contemporary expression.
A tattoo has always been - and still is - a ritual through which you become more of who you are.

Meet your artist

Fun fact:
Tattooing has accompanied humanity since the very beginning. From prehistory onward, a tattoo has been a moment of alignment with oneself and one’s identity — as if with every mark we become a little more who we truly are. Throughout history, tattoos have served as therapy, ritual, protection, belonging, and healing. They offered a way for a person to affirm their story and carry it forever, as a gesture of respect toward their own identity.

Hi! I'm Vana Mardešić, a tattoo artist and owner of Abstract Studio. I have a Master's degree in fine arts and teaching art history. I started tattooing through an apprenticeship while still in college, with the desire to one day open my own salon.
At the end of 2024, Abstract Studio was founded, a space dedicated to tattoos, body art, artistic research and an individual approach to each client.
Here, every tattoo is created thoughtfully and professionally. It follows your story and aesthetic, with careful planning and an individual approach backed by years of artistic education.
In addition to tattooing, I do painting, graphic printing, and research into art history, especially the history of tattooing.
As a tattoo artist, I work in various styles - illustrative, realistic, fine line, geometric, freehand, blackwork.
I usually tattoo botanical, animal, ornamental and abstract motifs.
If you are also interested in the art of skin painting, you are in the right place.

preparation and AFTERCARE
Before the tattoo
Make sure to eat a meal before your appointment. Bring something to eat if you have a long appointment. Make sure to drink enough water the day before and on the day of your tattoo.
Wear comfortable clothing and make sure the planned tattoo placement is easily accessible. For more info, see the Q&A question 'What to wear for a tattoo'
48 hours before the appointment, avoid alcohol and medicines that thin the blood (e.g. Brufen). Substances affect pain, bleeding and healing.
Avoid self-tanning products and glitter cosmetics before your appointment.
After
tattoos
If you have a regular foil applied, you should remove it at home after 4-5 hours and rinse the tattoo with water. If you have a SecondSkin foil applied, you will receive detailed instructions in the salon after the tattoo.
The first night, sleep with the foil on - a new one, that you applied yourself after washing and applying tattoo ointment.
It's best for the tattoo to be left open in the air, and if you have to, wear loose clothing over the tattoo that won't irritate the healing skin - preferably cotton. Avoid clothing that has lint - pieces of fabric that can fall off the clothing and stick to the tattoo (e.g. sweaters, thick sweatpants, etc.).
Daily care: 2 weeks, 3 times a day, perform aftercare:
1. Wash your hands. Then wash the tattoo with water and antibacterial soap. I recomend Balea antibacterial soap with panthenol. When washing the tattoo, do not use shower sponges, but an open palm.
2.Wipe the tattoo with a napkin/paper towel (never a cloth towel!). Wipe by patting, not scratching.
3.Apply a very thin layer of the ointment to the tattoo.
Avoid for 2 weeks:
Sweating, training, strain.
Soaking the tattoo in water (sea, river, pool, bath in a tub, any water).
Sunbathing and solarium.
Any cosmetics other than the above mentioned soap and tattoo ointment.
For 5 weeks, avoid:
Shaving, waxing
Aggressive cosmetics
Skin exfoliationok
While the tattoo heals, the skin peels off. It is important to let it peel off on its own, and to resist scratching when the tattoo is itchy.
I am always available for any questions regarding tattoo aftercare. Don't hesitate to ask anything..
